First Generation 覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧 1. Joseph Wabbleton/Warblington). Many individuals moved on to establish themselves in that western portion of North Carolina that was created as Iredell County in 1788. Isolated by geography, they and the proprietors ignored one another. Residents raised tobacco, had few slaves, and consisted mainly of small farmers. One such small farm belonged to Joseph Wabbleton who resided in Captain Wright's District in February 1786. He was over 21 but under 60 years of age. Within Joseph's household was another white male who was under 21 years of age, no white female, and "2 blacks, over 12 and under 50 years of age." This appears to indicate that he was a widower with one son. When the first United States Census was taken in 1790, Joseph was enumerated in the Salisbury District of Iredell County, North Carolina as Joseph Wableton, a "free white male head of household over 16 years of age." Within his household was one other free white male who was "under 16 years", and four "free white females, all ages." He had obviously remarried and, either acquired some stepdaughters or begun anew. This was within a relatively new county, having been formed just two years earlier from Rowan County. [Sources: Trimble, David B., Ph.D., A Student Handbook for U. S. C.] He married Miss (w/o Jos. Warblington), After 1790 in Iredell County (?), North Carolina. They had the following children: 2 i. James Warbington 3 ii. Joseph Warbington
Second Generation 覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧 2. James Warbington. Born 1796 in Nash or Edgecomb County, North Carolina. Died 10 Sep 1858 in Montgomery County, Indiana. Buried in Crawfordsville, Indiana. Occupation Farmer. Joseph Warblington was present in the Clermont County, Ohio 1802 State Census. Joseph Warbenton appeared upon the Clermont County tax rolls of 1809. Then the following year, Joseph Warbenton again appeared upon the Clermont County tax rolls for 1810. Obviously, these are one and the same man. His early presence would seem to indicate that he was most logically the father of the two men who were enumerated as head of households in early census' of Clermont County: Samuel Warbington and James Warbington. The first extant census for the state of Ohio was in 1820, where in Clermont County was the household of James Warbenton: "1 male under 10, 2 males 16-25; 1 female under 10, 2 females 16-25." Since later tracing reveals that James was only 24 years of age at the time of this census, this household is obviously that of a young couple who has possibly another young couple residing with them. The two young children could have belonged to either couple. James moved his household to Montgomery County, Indiana, where they were enumerated in 1830 as follows: James Warbington 35-40 [1796] 1 male [Joseph] 10-15 [1815-20] 1 male [George] 5-10 [1820-25] 1 male [Samuel] 0-5 [1826-30] 1 female [Jane A.] 20-30 [1800-10] 1 female [?] 5-10 [1820-25] 1 female [?] 0-5 [1826-30]
James and Jane migrated to Crawsfordsville, Indiana in 1826. James Warbington died September 10, 1858. His will, which was dated September 7, 1858, was probated in Montgomery County, Indiana on October 15, 1858. His wife, Jane A., was Executrix of his estate, and he was also survived by five of their seven children: William T. Warbington, John A. Warbington, George C. Warbington, Margaret A. Hunt and Elizabeth Jane Brown. Witnesses to the will were J. B. McMechan, S. B. Morgan and Alexander Clossin. It is her father's will that has created a mystery for us. I will send that information to you. You have so much good information already on James and Jane's family. My lineage is through John A. He lived in the original Montgomery County, Indiana house and tradition has it that his son Edwin was born (1860) in the same house as John A. In 1878 John A. and his wife Eliza Ward, sold out and purchased land in Labette County, Kansas. Ed was 18 years old and moved with them. John A. lived until 1914. Ed married Inez Oliver and they had a son, Oliver Ward Warbinton in 1897. Ward, as he always went by, was my grandfather. Ed died in a farming accident in 1934. Ward died in 1979. My father, Robert, was born in 1924 and is still living. My brother and I believe that Richard Warfington of the Lewis and Clark expedition was really a Warbington...."
